Memorial Day services were held by American Legion posts across Ringgold county Monday at area cemeteries. At Rose Hill
Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Rev. Doris KINTON of the First Christian Church was the speaker, calling the cemetery "a field
of dreams -- a sacred place." Joe GROSS was master of ceremonies, Legion chaplain Bob ERICKSON gave the prayers,
wreaths were laid by Marilyn SCHLAPIA and Myrtle REPP, a Legion rifle squad fired a salute and music was provided
by the MACHS band. A special part of the services was dedication of a new sign for the cemetery, built by the
Sunshine Workers 4-H Club.
Bryan CAMBPELL, just completing his sophomore year at Iowa State University, will travel to Latvia with a
group of sutdents with Campus Crusade for Christ. They will spend their time at Riga Technical University in Riga,
Latvia.
Fifteen MACHS band students will be among 258 musicians selected for the Southwest Iowa Honor Marching Band this
week: Stephanie BAINUM, flute; Eria PETERSOHN, clarinent; Ami PATEL, alto saxophone; Aaron COMER, Darin DOLECHECK
and Erin SMITH, trombones; Amy SHAFER and Cody ROE, trumpets; Travis JOHNSON, bass drum; Josh WASKE, cymbals;
Josie STEPHENS, Brandy ADAMS, Tracy CAREY, Jacque GEPNER and Katie TAYLOR, flag corps.
Pamela (KNIGHT) and Kyle SHAHA will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. The couple was married June 7, 1969 at
the Mount Ayr First Christian Church.
Karen ELMER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard ELMER and a MACHS sophomore, was installed as worthy advisor of the Mount
Ayr Assembly of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls at a special meeting May 14.
Recent area college graduates are: Chad HUNT from Northwest Missouri State University, bachelor of science degree in
education; Michale HYMBAUGH from Des Moines Area Community College, diploma in machine drafting; Joel MEKUS from
Northeast Louisiana University, bachelor of science degree in atmospheric sciences; and Shawn O'MAILIA from Teikyo Westmar
University, bachelor of arts in management.
Don and Edna SMALL headed a contingent of three Ringgold county couples who were guests of noted golfer, Fuzzy ZOELLER,
at the opening of the Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg, IN. The SMALLS were accompanied by Sandi and LeRoy WOOD
and Eric and Connie BROWN.
MAC Raider Chip BRUNDAGE placed 10th at the state track meet with a discus throw of 137' 10 1/2".
