A deal was made Tuesday afternoon whereby H.H. WILSON, who retired from the grocery business in Mount Ayr a year ago
after a long and successful career in the business, again became owner of the store. H.W. FARIS, who purchased the
interests of his partners, Mr. WILSON and A.B. LIGGETT, a year ago, has been compelled to retire from the business
on account of ill health. L.O. BEMENT, who has been associated with Mr. FARIS in the business since the first of January,
also sold his interest to Mr. WILSON.
Proceedings of the Ringgold county board of supervisors coNtain the following statistics: The county treasurer is
allowed the sum of $500 per annum for deputy or clerk hire; wages of the cement gang are - foreman, $4 per day;
single hands, $3.50, and man and team, $42.5; Bert SNYDER has been hired to run the tractor grader at $3.50 per
day; Harry FORD, scraper and grader team, $4.25 per day, and John MARKLEY, tractor engine, $4 per day.
Rex LAWHEAD came Wednesday morning from College Springs, where he has been employed as a teacher of the seventh and
eighth grades for the past two years, to accept a position in the post office here.
A marriage license was issued by Clerk of the Courts H.S. TYRRELL yesterday to Charles M. MOON and Edna Mae
MAXWELL.
KNOWLTON -- Harry LARSON, who has been pumping at Diagonal and Blockton for the C.G.W. Railway Company,
resigned his position last week. Mr. MOORE, of Blockton, takes his place.
DIAGONAL -- One of the main features of the Farmer's Institute held last week was the men's debate on the disarmament
question held Friday evening in the Opera House. The affirmative side of the question was supported by V.H. DICKENS,
Grant STAHL, E. SOBOTKA and Robert BAILEY and on the negative team were John WILLIAMS, D.C. GARD, W.J. McLAUGHLIN and
J.A. BAKER, the judges, the Rev. D.B. PRATHER and Thomas A. WARE of Blockton and William BUCK, of Mount Ayr,
decided unanimouSly in favor of the affirmative.
ELLSTON SCHOOL NEWS -- The Ellston school has adopted a new system for the purpose of encoraging
punctuality. Each half day the perfect attendance in each room is designated by a star. When 20 consecutive stars are
earned a quarter holiday is given to the room earning them.
Commercial law, economics and botany have been added
to the cirriculum this semester.
HICKORY GROVE -- Mr. and Mrs. Earl SALTZMAN are rejoicing over a boy boarder, who arrived at their residence
about a week ago.
BIRTHS:
January 23, twin boys to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur JARRED, Sandy Grove
January 27, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Homer GERMAN, Sandy Grove
REDDING - Dean BAIRD and wife, northeast of town, are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby girl, which
came to gladden their home Sunday.
