Ringgold County will be represented by livestock and crop judging teams in the 4-H division at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Sept. 3. Members of the crop judging and identification team are Royce RINEHART, Joe DENHART and Jerry BAKER of Mount Ayr, and LeRoy CREES of Beaconsfield. The team has been coached by Melvin GRAY. Dale BICKEL, Bob ALLEN and Lyle FARIS of Mount Ayr, David BARKER of Benton, and Randall HANSON of Diagonal are the members of the livestock judging team, of which Len BEATH and Milt HENDERSON have served as coaches.

Judy BRAMMER of Redding and Randall HANSON of Diagonal, who showed the champion Hereford heifer and steer, respectively, at the Ringgold County Fair, have received special awards from the Creston Hereford Breeders Association.

Mrs. Omer HOLTZMAN, who resided on the TURNER farm in Lotts Creek Township, suffered minor burns on one arm Tuesday morning while canning tomatoes, when an element in the electric stove she was using caught fire. The stove, wallpaper, curtains and several cabinets in the kitchen were extensively damaged by the flames. Mount Ayr volunteer firemen answered the alarm about 11 a.m., but upon their arrival at the scene found the fire had been extinguished by B. H. TURNER and his son-in-law, Laurence BISHOP.

W. H. "Mike" BISHOP of Rice Township won first-place in the lightweight division of the state championship team pulling contest held Friday at the Iowa State Fair. His team, Fox and Duke, weighing 2,795 pound, pulled 2,900 pounds to win the event. Ora MILLER of Middle Fork Township placed fifth in the heavyweight division of the contest Sunday.

C. Arthur HANSEN, superintendent of Mount Ayr Community schools, has been appointed a member of the public relations committee of the Iowa State Education Association to represent the south central district of the association.

Lyle FARIS exhibited several head of Duroc hogs, a part of his vocational agriculture supervised farming program, last week at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. His placings included a fifth in a class of 11 boars; 12th and 13th on gilts in a class of 20, and eighth in a class of 10 litters. Lyle's barrows received a red rating in a class of 29 and a pen of market hogs exhibted placed ninth in a class of 13. Lyle is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur FARIS of Mount Ayr.

Two 4-H boys demonstration teams from Ringgold County -- the Liberty Boys and Kellerton Hustlers -- were awarded blue ribbons Monday at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Lyndall "Pete" HILL suffered a fractured right knee cap and Don SMITH and Paul HANSEN sustained minor cuts and bruises Friday when a Ringgold County pickup, in which they were riding, collided with a John Deere tractor on the Beaconsfield-Kellerton road.

Paul EASON of Washington Township was re-elected chairman of the Ringgold County ASC committe at the ASC convention in Mount Ayr on Saturday, August 27. Lawrence SWANK of Athens Township was re-elected vice-chairman and Marshall BARKER of Poe Township was named third member of the county committee.
