Santa Claus made his first visit to Mount Ayr this Christmas season when he came into town riding on a horse-drawn
sleigh Friday morning. Marvin MAIN brought Santa to town in the one-horse open sleigh whiel the reindeer rested up to
get ready for the Christmas trip later. Santa Claus will make his Mount Ayr holiday headquarters at Place's.
Bill ANDERSON of Mount Ayr won a statewide contest for a free weekend stay at the Hotel Fort Des Moines in Des Moines as
part of a promotion for the Great American Smokeout November 17. Each county was encouraged to choose a smoker to go into
a drawing in Des Moines as part of a program by the American Cancer Soicety in its campaign to get smokers to quit. A
drawing was then held for a statewide winner of the the weekend in Des Moines, and Bill ANDERSON was chosen.
A Mount Ayr student is among 120 students from Iowa's high schools and junior highs and their teachers in the running for
an expense-paid educational trip to Washington, D.C. Brent E. McCLURE of Mount Ayr and high school social studies teacher
James SAVILLE are among finalists in the Iowa State Bar Association's Know Your Constitution and Courts program held
in conjunciton with the sesquicentennial of the establishment of the Iowa Supreme Court.
