Physical examinations for the first army draft will begin Friday of this week at the courthouse. Members of the local board - Sheriff C.M. King, County Auditor E.E. Cornwall and Dr. C.T. Lesan - have been busy making arrangements to comply with the provisions of the law which provides for the selection of an availble list of 124 men for the first call to military service. Twice the number has been summoned for examination and the plan is to complete the work in three days.

The WCTU [Women's Christian Temperance Union] will hold its second annual county reunion August 7, at Wishard Chapel. Those who will appear on the program are Mrs. Harry Berry, Mrs. Luella Tidrick, Mrs. F.A. Woods, Mrs. J.A. Falloway, Mrs. H.M. Jessup, Lois Williams, Delta Johnston, Charles Phin Bennett, Mrs. J.V. Wright, Ermal Breckenridge, Ona Shannon, Alma McDowell, Mrs. Merl DeWitt, Grace Richards and Mrs. A. Immerzell.

Announcement is made that Grant L. Hayes, who recently graduated from the law department of the State University of Iowa, has formed a partnership with the firm of Spence & Beard, which firm will hereafter be known as Spence, Beard & Hayes.

Robertson & Hughes, who had been engaged in the coal business in Mount Ayr for the past four years, sold their business last week to Seevers & Butler, immediate possion being given.

BIRTHS

  • KELLERTON - Dr. and Mrs. Havely are the proud parents of a boy, born July 25.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coy are rejoicing over the arrival of a seven and one-hald pound girl on July 31.
