SPC Brian Miller cited for meritorious service
A 1996 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school has received special commendation from the US Army for his service in
Iraq. Army National Guard specialist Brian MILLER, son of Lloyd and Suzanne MILLER of Tingley, was cited for his
meritorious service as a motor transport operator, a member of the 2168th Transportation Company. According to the
citiation, MILLER completed 25 convoy missions covering over 19,000 miles, all accident and incident free. On
February 17, 2005, MILLER'S convoy received small arms fire while they were stopped on a main supply route. The citation
credited MILLER'S quick response for allowing the convoy to vacate the area without suffering any casualties or
damage to equipment. On May 26, 2005, MILLER was credited with pulling security for combat lifesaves after an attack.
MILLER warned the security team about a second explosive device, and he is credited with saving the team from further
injuries. During his time in Iraq, MILLER also helped translate from convoy commanders to foreign national drivers,
going so far as drawing pictures to ensure the drivers were aware of the commanders' intent. The full citation reads:
"SPC MILLER'S tireless efforts to assist the convoy commander and dedication to duty have been invaluable to the
company. He is a role model for both his subordinates and peers. SPC MILLER'S efforts reflect great credit upon himself, his
unit, the 7th Transporation Group and the United States Army."
