RUSSELL "PEEWEE" HANNON

Russell "PeeWee" HANNON, youngest son of the Mike HANNONS, entered the U.S. Army on July 19, 1944, and after concluding basic training was sent overseas in December. He was, in fact, on board a ship enroute to the European Theatre when the family received word that his older brother T/Sgt. John D. "Jack" HANNON had been killed in action on December 12, 1944.

Russell served in the Rhineland-Central European Theatre. He was discharged at the rank of Staff-Sergeant on June 24, 1946. Russell was awarded the Victory Medal, European-African-Middle East Theatre Ribbon, two bronze stars, three overseas bars, the Army Occupation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
