Diagonal's American Legion Post was organized during the first part of 1922 and was named Morris Post #395. Sometime in before 1930, the Post lost its Charter and operated under a temporary Charter. Temporary charter members were Bryan W. BROWN, William CORDLE, Jesse S. DeVORE, Ora REYNOLDS, David R. NICHOLS, John J. TOMAN, David S. TOMAN, Hiram A. BURCH, Joseph H. DICKENS, Ray S. HAWTHORNE, Howard PETTIGREW, and Leo I. AYRS, Adj.

When the Post applied for a permanent Charter on August 13, 1932, there were fifteen members with forty servicemen who were eligible for membership.

The Post name was changed in 1946 to Morris - Herrold Post #395.

Harold PAGE served for fourteen years as the Adj. and District Commander from 1976 to 1977.

David THRIFT is the Post's oldest deceased veteran, born in 1794, served during the War of 1812, and died in 1888 with interment at Bethel Cemetery.

A monument for the unknown soldier is in Knowlton Cemetery. It was built by Richard A. YASHACK unther the direction of Ethelyn HERRINGTON. In 1976 this was replaced by a stone which was under the supervision of Harold PAGE.

The first auxilliary legion, attached to Morris-Herrold Post #395 was organized in March of 1922. Due to inactivity in 1933, the auxilliary lost its Charter. A new charter was applied for on March 26, 1934 with twenty-three names.

During the war years, 40 to 50 women met to roll bandages.

Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
