RED OAK—Mra. Ellen BREDBERG has received word from the war department that her son, Sgt. Virgil Vernon BREDBERG, who was overseas since February, has been missiing in France since July 7. He was inducted into the army April 2, 1942, leaving his mother's farm. His wife resides with his [sic] sister, Mrs. Earl CLYMER at Elliott.

RED OAK. (AP) — Walking for almost two months after he was liberated from German prison camp, Sgt. Virgil BREDBERG finally rejoined American forces and Thursday had reached his destination — home in Red Oak.

The sergeant was captured near Cherbourg, France, last July and was freed by the Russians January 31. He walked 90 miles to get out of Germany and started across Poland, eventually reaching American lines where transportation to the United States was arranged. BREDBERG's wife teaches a rural school near Elliott.

Virgil's wife Caroline (FLEMING) BREDBERG was the granddaughter of Livingston Alden FLEMING and his first wife Caroline Jane TUCKER. Livingston was born in Venango County, Pennsylvania, on November 17, 1855; and died June 5, 1939 in Iowa. Caroline Jane (TUCKER) FLEMING was born circa 1860, New York State, and died in 1882, near Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa. Livingston farmed near Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa. He became a minister of the United Brethren Church by 1910. Caroline's father Willie F. FLEMING was born in Ringgold County, Iowa on March 4, 1882; and died February 6, 1951, Omaha, Nebraska. Caroline's mother Valeria Matilda (BALDOZIER) FLEMING was born in Iowa on April 19, 1886, and died January 15, 1970, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
