Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 04, 2014

We just assisted the Mount Ayr American Legion with the 70th year celebration of the end of World War II. We are now looking forward to several exciting events during the month of September and October.

  • Saturday, September 27: We will be helping the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War rededicate the Civil War Monument located on the Courthouse grounds This event will kick off at 1:30 p.m.

  • Tuesday, October 7: We will have a very special evening for honoring veterans who gave their all at Normandy. Mr. Bobby Burrows, a Ringgold County Son, will be with us to share pictures and experiences from his trip to the Normandy and other cemeteries in Europe. This will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Mount Ayr. More later.

  • Next big news item: We were notified that two Ringgold County residents have been selected to be on the next Korean War Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Residents Harold Cooper and Jim Hullinger have been selected for this wonderful trip to DC to see the Veteran's memorials. They will travel to Des Moines on Monday, September 20 for a dinner at Praire Meadows and a night at the Airport Holiday Inn. They will then be picked up by bus at ( ) dark thirty for the plane trip to DC. We all would like to thank Casey's and Hy-Vee for their support of this activity. More information to follow.
