A fire in the late 1960's or early 1970's burnt the appliance portion of the building and killed some dogs that they owned at the time. Sharon writes, "Grandpa used to raise coon dogs. He also had a lake lot and owned the car wash in Mount Ayr. My uncle still lives there in Mount Ayr. My grandpa also did hunting and sold the furs of the animals. He was also a rural postman for a time. Grandma work at a resturant there in Mount Ayr for a time also."
