SHERIFF ALEXANDER ELLIOT HOLLAND

Capt. Alex. E. HOLLAND, now serving his third term as sheriff of Ringgold county, was born in Woodsfield, O[hio]., 54 years ago. Seven days after Ft. Sumter was fired upon he enlisted in Co. C., 25th Ohio infantry, and after served three years, was appointed captain of Co. I 194th Ohio, serving one year in that capacity.

After the war, Capt. HOLLAND worked at coopering and in the steamboat business. He reached Mt. Ayr in 1882, serving as city marshal four years, deputy sheriff several years, and was elected sheriff in 1891, still holding that office.

He is a prominent member of the G.A.R. and A.O.U.W. [American Order of United Woodmen]. By great strength, agility and personal courage, as well as by the extreme neatness of his papers and his methodical manner of transacting business, he has established himself in the favor of his constituency.
