HISTORY HIGHLIGHTS
Notes from the Ringgold County Historical Society

We are in the midst of a Centennial decade.

Last year we had the Middle Fork church centennial. This year there are the Shannon City, Maloy, Benton and Wishard Chapel church celebrations.

Next year will be the last, and perhaps the largest, of the recent Centennial "shin-digs" at Diagonal.

These centennial histories are provide our county with a wealth of material for futher genealogical research as well as a great many "keep sakes" to remember the historic days of the past.

The Wishard Chapel Centennial celebration will be held August 8-9. A special feature will be a commemorative dinner plate that will carry a picture of the church with a silhouette inset of Father James B. WISHARD, retired minister and rural religious leader, who at the age of 87 years participated in the founding of the church which bears his name.

If you are a collector of unusual historical plates, you may want one of these. The cost is $10 locally or $12 if mailed out. Reservations can be made by contacting Mrs. Robert BENNETT, Rt. 1, Box 95, Mount Ayr, Iowa. They should be ready by Aug. 1 and are sure to become keepsakes for collectors.

Have you made a visit to the Ringgold County Pioneer Center this year? The museum is open each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon until September. Our hostess will be most happy to take you on a guided tour through the museum.
