MALOY -- The declamatory contest was held Wednesday evening and winners were Gladys BROWN, first prize; Agnes
LEPLEY, first in humorous; and Grace WORTHINGTON, first; and Hazel SHEIL, second. Emma LEPLEY was their instructor.

MALOY - WINNERS NAMED
Mary M. BARTELS won the oratorical division, Mildred SHAY, the dramatic and Laura ANDERSON, the humorous class in the
declamatory contest held at the Maloy Consolidated School.
MALOY -- Felix (Pat) CARR and Miss BULLOCK went Friday afternoon to Des Moines, where Felix entered the state spelling
Contest. The contest was held at Roosevelt High School on Saturday afteroon. About 60 spellers had gone down before Felix
met the word he could not spell. TECHNICIAN was his downfall. Felix had previously won the Ringgold County
championship and placed fifth in the Inter-state contest at Council Bluffs.

Winners of the annual academic tests entered the district meet at Creston May 20. Making the trip were the following:
Algebra - Opal BEST and Marshall MATTHEWS
Geomtry - Gladys TILLOTSON and Eileen SHAY
World History - Eileen SHAY and Gladys TILLOTSON
English Literature - Maxine and Mildred SHAY
English Correction - Maxine and Mildred SHAY
English Correction - Gladys TILLOTSON and Bartlett COOK
English Correction - Mary BARTLES and Irma JARVIS
English Correction - Opal BEST and Donald MULLIN
Maxine SHAY and Mary BARTLES placed in the tests and will enter the next round to be held at Chariton.

The week of May 4th ~ National Music Week. Two groups fom our school appeared on the County Nigh program in
Mount Ayr. Irma JARVIS, Marguerite STEELE and Maxine SHAY sang "Those Distant Chimes"; and a quartet composed of those
three and Doris JARVIS presented "Years Make the Heart Grow Colder."

Wednesday evening, Mary BARTLES, Mildred SHAY and Laura ANDERSON, who won first in their divisions of the three-school
contest at Benton, went to Lenox where they represented Maloy in the sub-district contest. Mildred SHAY, reading
Camille, won first in dramatic over speakers from Clearfield, Nodaway and New Market. Friday night Mildred will
represent us in the pre-district contest at Creston.

Tomorrow night Creston High School will be host to seven schools at the pre-district declamatory contest. This is the
third of the state elimination series, and the winners of this contest will compete in the district at Missouri Valley
April 4. The winners of that contest will go to the state meet. Schools competing here are Clearfield, Grand River,
Lenox, Maloy, Mount Ayr, Shannon City, Weldon and Creston.
