MALOY, IOWA CENTENNIAL HISTORY: 1887 - 1987

DOUGLAS A. RICE FAMILY

Douglas RICE and his family lived west and north of Maloy on the POORE place for a number of years, arriving about in 1942. Mr. RICE was a farmer by occupation. There were six children in their family. Their present residences and occupations follow:

Opal married Bill GOODALE and they live eight miles northwest of Diagonal. They are retired from farming. They have three married daughters.

Lewis (Mike) RICE is retired from farming. He lives three miles south of Lenox. His wife Daisy died three years ago [1984] from a heart attack. Their two daughters and one son live in Lenox.

Paul RICE and wife Sadie (GARITY) moved to Corvallis, Oregon in November of 1962. He was a mail carrier and Sadie a beautician. Paul has retired. They have one daughter Sheila who lives in Hawaii and works for an insurance company.

Charlotte and husband Dwight CUNNING live 9 1/2 miles southeast of Mount Ayr. They planned to retire from farming in the fall of 1986 and move to town. Their son Brad was killed in a tractor accident in 1975. A daughter Sherri HYMBAUGH lives in Mount Ayr and has three children.

Betty BROOKS and husband Max live in Chicago, Illinois. Betty is a secretary for Timex Watch Company and Max is currently unemployed. They adopted a son and a daughter when they were babies. Their son is in college and their daughter is in high school.

The youngest of the RICE children was Jorene who with her husband Charles RANKIN lives in Algonquin, Illinois. Jorene babysits in her home and Charles works for General Motors. They have one daughter and two sons, all grown. The daughter is married and has a little girl.

Douglas RICE passed away in 1975 and Mrs. RICE in April of 1963.

NOTES: Douglas RICE was born June 25, 1888, and died at Lenox, aged 86 years, on January 1, 1975.

Charlotte RICE and Dwight CUNNING were married at Lenox, Iowa March 6, 1947. Bradford M. CUNNING was born in 1948, and died in November of 1975. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
