EDWIN POLLEY FAMILY

Edwin and Diantha POLLEY purchased land in Benton Township in Section 34 in 1895. They were the parents of nine children all of whom lived at some time either in the township or nearby.

In 1922 Edwin POLLEY sold the farm to his son Guy and his wife Mary STEPHENS POLLEY. It was the home of the Guy POLLEYS until 1946 when they retired and moved to Mount Ayr. Their children, Gladys and Lee, both attended Maloy schools until their high school graduation. Gladys married Howard SHAW and now lives in West Liberty.

Lee graduated from UNI and for many years was director of housing at Mount Pleasant University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He is retired and lives in Longmont, Colorado where his son is employed. He also has two daughters.

NOTES: Edwin Franklin POLLEY, son of Hiram and Mary POLLEY was born in Medina County, Ohio on October 29, 1842, and died at the age of 83 years on September 29, 1926 near Maloy, Iowa. He served with Company I of the 2nd Iowa Infantry during the Civil War. On November 21, 1868, he married Diantha J. HOOVER in Clinton County, Iowa. Diantha, the daughter of Christian and Mary Jane (BREMER) HOOVER, was born in Marion County, Ohio on February 13, 1847, and died at the age of 86 years on January 19, 1935, Blockton. They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

As per Edwin's obituary, the POLLEYS were the parents of seven children: Cora A. (POLLEY) TURNER, Leona (POLLEY) THOMPSON, Minnie (POLLEY) POOR, Lula (POLLEY) SKINNER, William POLLEY, Charles O. POLLEY who died in infancy, and Guy POLLEY.

Leona Eudora (POLLEY) THOMPSON was born in Nebraska on September 2, 1874, and died at the age of 65 years on January 17, 1940, Blockton. She married Edgar THOMPSON. She was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

William Albert POLLEY was born in Maloy on October 17, 1882, and died in 1921. He married Elizabeth May "Lizzie" MAPEL on February 7, 1905. Elizabeth May "Lizzie" was born in Mount Ayr in 1882, and died in 1964. They were interred in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

Orville K. POLLEY, son of William Albert and Elizabeth May "Lizzie" (MAPEL), was born in Ringgold County in 1909, and died in 1978. He was intered at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

Guy Ernest POLLEY was born in Ringgold County, Iowa on October 13, 1887, and died at the age of 76 years on February 14, 1964, Mount Ayr. He married Mary Ellen STEPHENS on February 22, 1911. Mary Ellen STEPHENS, the daughter of John Lindsey and Catherine (JARVIS) STEPHENS, was born in Ringgold County September 27, 1886, and died at the age of 72 years on August 9, 1959. They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

Vesta Irene POLLEY, daughter of Guy and Mary POLLEY, was born June 23, 1920. The death date on her gravestone at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr has not been cut.

Loren William POLLEY, son of Guy and Mary POLLEY, was born November 30, 1928, and died December 1, 1928. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

John Edwin POLLEY was born May 20, 1948, and died May 22, 1948. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
