Benton Centennial 1887 - Benton, Iowa - 1987
The Walters Family
Hugh and Louise WALTERS, with their three children: Wayne, Rena, and Keith, moved to their farm, just north of the Goose Pond
corner. The family took an active part in the Benton School, church, and Lodge affairs. Hugh and Wayne were members of the
Benton Odd Fellows' Lodge. Louise and Rena belonged to the Rebekahs. Hugh served on the Benton school board for twenty years.
Wayne served in World War II. He was married to Rita BLAKELY, and they had one son, Gary. Rita died in 1968. Wayne later
married Billie TATUM. They live in Haskell, Texas. Gary, too, has a home there. Rena married Billie J. SMITH. They have
two children. Terry and her husband, Curtis LININGER, and their two daughters, Brandi and Angela, live on a farm near
Tingley. Ted and his wife, Ronda, and their children, Renda and Casey, live at Glendale, Arizona. Rena and Bill moved
to Mesa, Arizona, in 1985. Keith married Jean RUSK. They have four children. Kristy and her husband, Wayne HEFFNER,
minister of The Church of God, live at North Liberty, Iowa. Kelly, a graduate of U.N.I., works in Iowa City. Kevin is a
student at U.N.I., and this is his fourth year. Kody works in Iowa City. Keith and Jean live at Wayland, Iowa. Hugh
and Louise lived on their farm until 1968, when they moved to Mount Ayr. Hugh died December 25, 1978 [with interment
at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr].
Louise still lives in Mount Ayr, and is looking foward to seeing friends at the Benton Centennial. Hopefully, Wayne, Rena,
and Keith, and their families will all be there. ~ Louise WALTERS
