The Haley-Gaines Family
Arthur HALEY, the son of Tom and Emma THARP HALEY, married Venita GAINES, daughter of Elisha and Dora SINCO GAINES, March
2, 1915, in Benton, Iowa. To this union were born five sons: George, James C., Elbert, Harry, and Raymond. Arthur and
Venita lived in Benton until they moved north of town, then moved north of Diagonal and still further north, to be south
of Shannon City. Then in 1947, they moved back to Benton, later moving to Mount Ayr where they both passed away,
Venita in 1966 and Arthur in 1973. George and his wife, June, live in Lake View and they are the parents of four
sons and five grandchildren. James (Jim) and his wife, Dorotha, have four children and twelve grandchildren. Elbert and
his wife, Fern, have two daughters and three grandchildren. Harry and his wife, Ruth, have twelve children and sixteen
grandchildren. Raymond (deceased) married Elva Lee. Of their children, five are living and three are deceased. There are
eight grandchildren. Arthur was janitor of the Benton school for several years and farmed for a number of years before
he and Venita moved to Mount Ayr, where they spent their last years.
NOTE: Arthur A. HALEY was born December 18, 1888 and died December 3, 1973. Venita A. (GAINES) HALEY
was born May 12, 1896 and died May 7, 1966.
George D. HALEY was born October 16, 1915 and died at Wall Lake, Iowa on February 22, 1993.
June HALEY was born in 1921 and died in 1988.
Elbert Leroy HALEY was born July 22, 1919 and died December 27, 2000.
Harry HALEY was born August 9, 1926 and died May 29, 2005. Ruth A. (ROUDYBUSH) HALEY was born June 16, 1928 and
died December 13, 1998.
Raymond K. HALEY was born in 1928 and died in 1975. Elva Lee Elizabeth (DREDGE) HALEY was born January 19, 1926 and
died February 17, 1990.
They were all interred at Marshalltown Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
