The Nickles Family
Howard Earl NICKLES, was the son of Charles Dean NICKLES, who was the son of William and Lucy Jane NICKLES. Charles was
reared on a farm near Maloy, Iowa. He had a brother, John, and two sisters, Belle and Ella. Howard's mother, Ida May
FULLER, was the daughter of Julius and Minerva FULLER. Ida had a brother who was also named Howard. They were reared near
Nevinsville, Iowa. Howard was reared on a farm near Benton, Iowa. There were four children: Merle, Howard, Ethel, and
Edith. Charles and Ida and family took great pride in their farm home. They were active in the Christian Church, the
Benton school, of which Charles served on the school board for many years, and the community and business affairs.
Howard's wife, Viola Mae HALL, was the oldest child of Albert and Cora HALL. Their home was blessed with three children:
Karen LaVon, Howard Dean, and Nancy Jean. Benton was their home town, but they all graduated from the Mount Ayr High
School. The children, all having homes of their own, blessed their parents with six grandchildren: John Marvin WOOLHEATER;
Christy Marie, Patricia Sue, and Nathan Dean NICKLES; Thomas John and Brad Alan HARTMAN. Howard was active in farming for
years, later working
Vi spent the early years of her marriage as housewife, mother, and part-timeworker. She later worked at the Clearview
Nusing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and for the last twenty years has been working at the Mount Ayr Ringgold County Hospital.
Howard and Vi were privileged to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on May 23, 1983. Vi became a member of
the Benton Rebekah Lodge No. 523 on December 12, 1955. ~ Viola Mae HALL NICKLES
NOTE: Howard Earl NICKLES was born in 1904, married Viola Mae HALL on May 23, 1943, and died in 1984.
Viola Mae (HALL) NICKLES was born in 1923, and died in 1990. They were interred at Benton Cemetery.
