Benton Centennial
1887 - Benton, Iowa - 1987

The Haley-Ferguson Family

Robert Faye HALEY was born in Creston, Iowa on September 21, 1946, to James and Dorotha HALEY. He went to Benton through the sixth grade, Maloy in the seventh grade, Delphos in the eighth grade, and completed high school in Mount Ayr.

After graduation on August 23, 1965, Bob joined the Navy. He spent four years in the Navy as a storekeeper and one and one-half years in Vietnam, unloading ships. He was stationed in New Orleans in 1967, where he met and married Linda Gayle FERGUSON on October 14, 1967.

They moved to Benton when Bob got out of the service. They then moved to Clearfield while Bob was working in Creston at Hills' McCanna. Bob then went to work for Iowa Southern Utilities (ISU) in Creston, where he and his family lived for one and one-half years. In 1972, Bob was transferred to Mount Ayr, and his family moved there with him so he could continue to work for ISU.

Bob HALEY is now a district lineman at ISU in Mount Ayr. He and his wife have three children: Cynthia Deanne, born April 24, 1967; Rebecca Sue, born August 27, 1969; and Bobbi Jo, born November 28, 1974. Bob and Linda reside in Mount Ayr with their children. In 1982, they purchased the South Side Tavern on the square in Mount Ayr.

Bob's wife, Linda, was born on October 7, 1949, to Mr. and Mrs. H.T. FERGUSON, in Ruston, Louisiana. She attended school in Louisiana, but finished her schooling in Birmingham, Alabama. She then moved to New Orleans with her parents, where she met and married Bob.
