The Gaines-Sinco Family
Henry SINCO was a native of Virginia, later South Carolina, and in the 1800 census, was in Ringgold County. He married
Jane BENNETT. They had seven children: John C., Columbus B., Minerava or Mary Ellen, Martha Jane, Caroline, Charlotte,
and Margaret A.
John C. was born January 1, 1839 and married Caroline WATSON CLING on May 24, 1863. Caroline was born April 27, 1846. They
were blessed with seven children: Sarah Jane, Lawn Dora, John H., Florence Mary, Lula Lillian, Nancy Anny, and Jessie Maud.
Sarah Jane married A.I. PAULIN and they were blessed with two children, George and Ethel. Lawn Dora married Elisha
GAINES. They had two daughters, Vera and Venita. Vera married Ralph DILLENBURG and theyhad three children: Donald,
Herbert, and Lucille. Venita married Arthur HALEY and they had five sones, George, James Elbert, Harry, and Raymond.
Elisha GAINES ran the hotel in Benton. John H. married Mary ASHBURN. One child, Rasco, blessed their family. Florence
Mary married Benjamin ELLIOTT. They had three children: Christen, Curtis, and Dorothy. Lula married W.A. DANIELD. They
had six children: Charles, Carl, Henry, and Lyle (Gene): and Charles and Gene, who are deceased. Nancy Anna married
Dexter HARDING and they had four children: Genevieve, Imogene, Arlene, and Jerry Ann. Jessie married Harry GIBBS.
They had twin sons, Richard and Robert, and a daughter, Gretchen. Back to the firest generation: Columbus B. died
shortly after entering the service. Mary Ellen married F.M. SCOTT and they were the parents of nine children. Margaret
married W.H. BARNES and they were the parents of two children, Benjamin and Virgil. Virgil married Mildred SWAN
and they had one son. Benjamin married Sadie JAMISON and they had four children: Richard, Ruth, William Henry, and
Margaret. Richard was a county supervisor for some years.
NOTE: Henry SINCOE died on April 18, 1874 and was interred at Lillie Cemetery near Lamoni in Decatur County, Iowa.
Jane (BENNETT) SINCOE died on February 23, 1898, and was interred at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Iowa.
