Fred D. LANE was born February 28, 1890, to Samuel W. LANE and Martha J. BARKER at Lucas, Iowa.

He came with his family in 1894 to Delphos, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, helping his parents and sisters, working on farms and railroads. He entered the armed services and served in World War I.

On October 29, 1919, he married Cora Margaret HALL of Benton. After marriage theymade their home in Delphos, Iowa, where two children were born, Marion Douglas and Dorotha Olive. They moved to Clearfield, Iowa and then to Benton in 19___, where a son, Leo Vernon, was born.

The depression came and jobs were few, so Fred LANE became a handyman. He worked as [a] janitor for the Benton school for 13 years. He loved the children but had to quit because of bad health. He passed away on July 23, 1966.

NOTE: Cora "Margaret" (HALL) LANE was born in 1892, and died in 1973. Fred and Margaret were interred at Benton Cemetery.
