The Elbert Haley Family
Elbert HALEY was born July 22, 1919 at Maloy, Iowa, to Arthur and Venita GAINES HALEY. They lived three miles east of
Maloy. At the age of two months, he moved with his parents to the southeast edge of Benton.
attended school in Benton for twelve years and graduated there in 1937. After graduation, he worked on a farm for Chester
WALLACE for two years.
On September 20, 1942, Elbert married Anna Marie BOWEN and they made their home in Benton. Later, he worked for Andy
ANDERSON, northeast of Mount Ayr, and moved back to Benton in 1946. In June of 1947, he began to work on the DIXON-ELLIOTT
farm, which is now the ELLIOTT Farms.
On December 18, 1949, Cathy Anna was born. She married Jerold A. SMITH of Creston,
who was in the U.S. Army at the time of their marrriage. They have two sons, Chadwick Carlton, born November 5, 1971,
and Daniel Lee, born November 12, 1974. At the present time, they are living in Germany where Jerold is stationed.
Lora Lou was born July 26, 1954. She married Leon BAXTER of For Madison in 1983. They have a daughter, Annie Jean,
born March 14, 1984, and their home is in Fort Madison, Iowa. On May 10, 1968, Anna Marie passed away after
suffering a heart attack [1968]. She is buried in the Marshalltown Cemetery. In 1973, Elbert had to retire because of his health.
moved northwest of Tingley. Pearl passed away in 1974, and Elbert moved back to Mount Ayr. On April 17, 1979, Elbert
married Fern BRACE and they moved to Tingley where they now reside.
