Clarence Barker
Clarence worked in California for a time after graduating from high school in 1931, and then went into the garage business
with Ames CROSS in Mount Ayr. He married [1941] LaVIECE MAIN and they moved to the home farm west of Benton in 1943, where they
still reside. They have six children: Barbara, David, Karyn, Dan, Lana, and Rita. Barbara married Garold CANNY and they
have a son, Brian. They live in Montgomery, Texas. Karyn married Raymond STONE and they live in Des Moines. They have
four children: Monica, Mark, Malinda, and Michelle. Lana married Richard GIBSON and they are the parents of two children:
Stephen and Stephanie. Rita lives in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, with her husband Lattry HUNTER, and [they have] two
children, Nathan and Allison. After three years in the Army, Dan returned to the farm and went into partnership with his
father. While in the Army, he married Chin Hui Oh (Jeannie) and they have two children, Leslie and Lance, later adopting
Linda and Lisa. Linda is now married to Gary KLEJCH of Mount Ayr. After graduating from college and working a few
years, David moved to a nearby farm and joined Dan
former Carol CASS, of Illinois, and they are the parents of Heather, Erin, Michael, and Sean. David and Dan's children
are the fifth generation of the BARKER family to grow up in the Benton community.
NOTE: Clarence A. BARKER was born on September 1, 1912 on the family farm near Benton, Iowa. During
World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. Clarence died at the age of 87 on March 22, 2000, and was interred at the
Benton Cemetery.
