Benton Centennial 1887 - Benton, Iowa - 1987
Cemetery at Benton Re-fenced (1978)
There's a new look at the Benton Cemetery these days. Located a half mile north of Benton, off Iowa Highway 2, the
cemetery sports new fencing all around with chain link fence and a new gate along the road. The new look is the result of
a cooperative community project held Saturday, September 23. Funds for the renovation had been collected from interested
persons earlier and materials purchased. The weather man cooperated and a big turnout of workers was recorded. Brush and
trees around part of the plot were removed, new wire strung on the sides and back, and the new chain link installed along
the front. The new fence features gates for both auto and pedestrian traffic. Women of the community worked together
to provide a noon meal at the Benton community hall for those working at the cemetery.
