Benton Centennial 1887 - Benton, Iowa - 1987
The John Barber Family
John and Linda BARBER, and their children, Dusty and Casey, live in the first house east of the Benton corner, on the
south side of the highway. They moved to the community in September of 1974 from Mount Ayr. John is the son of
Manlea and the late Pearl BARBER of Blockton. They were from Denver and Grant City, Missouri. They lived on a farm west
of Maloy most of John's life. Linda is the daugher of the late Verl and Nellie HENSLEY of Grant City, Missouri. Verl was
raised in the Middle Fork area and Nellie around Grant City. They owned and operated the Standard Service Station on
Highway #46 in Grant City for thirty years, until his death. They lived in Grant City, next to the station, the entire
time Linda was living at the home. Dusty was fifteen years old in November, 1985, and is a freshman at Mount Ayr
School. He plays
the younger son, was nine years old in February, 1986, and is a
of Mount Ayr School. He doesn't do anything special in school, but does enjoy being outdoors, and playing with cars,
Gobots, and friends. John works as a construction worker during the summer months and in the winter he hunts coons
and babysits for Casey. Linda is a beauty operator at Beauty Corner in Mount Ayr. She also works part-time at Places'
Store in Mount Ayr.
