The Andrews Family
Robert Lee ANDREWS, the son of Perle J. and Maude Ann ANDREWS, was born on September 3, 1928, in Lincoln Township. They
moved back to Benton when he was in the eighth grade, and he graduated from Benton School. Later, he married Rose
COURTNEY, a teacher in the primary grades in Benton. They lived north of Benton for one year, and then Bob went to the
service during the Korean war. They spent one and one-half years in Alaska, then returned in 1953. Robert and Rose
lived on a farm north of Mount Ayr for seven years, then moved to Redding where they lived on a farm for thirteen
years. They finally settled on a farm north of Benton.
Robert and Rose are the parents of three children: Richard Lee, Randy Eugene, and Karen Jean. Richard ANDREWS was born
February 18, 1954. He attended school at Redding and Mount Ayr. He married Vickie SCHAFER of Mount Ayr, the daughter of
Robert and Wilma SCHAFER. Richard and Vickie lived in Omaha for one year while he attended electronic school, then moved to
Leon, where they still live. Rick operates a muffler and tire shop, and Vickie manages a shoe store. They have three
children: Tara LaDawn, who was born October 15, 1973; Gustin Wyatt, who was born September 9, 1975 (on Robert and Rose's
twenty-fifth anniversary); and Jotham Levi, who was born February 25, 1979. Randy ANDREWS was born December 20, 1956.
He went to school in Redding, Maloy, and Mount Ayr. Later, he married Becky SCHAFER of Mount Ayr, daughter of Robert and
Wilma SCHAFER. They farm north of Benton. They have one son, Charles Robert, born on December 8, 1983. Becky is a
substitute teacher in the area schools. Karen ANDREWS was born January 13, 1963. She attended school in Benton in the
third and fourth grades, and in Mount Ayr. She married Michael J. MURRAY during her senior year, and moved to Rockford,
Illinois, where she gradauted. She has two children, Michael James, Jr., born August 18, 1981, and Cody LeRea, born
September 30, 1985.
