LOUIS ELMER WYCKOFF

Louis Elmer WYCKOFF's father was John Wesley WYCKOFF, born June 30, 1839, Warren County, New Jersey, and died 1909, Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa. His mother was Barbara Jane (LAIRD) WYCKOFF, born November 24, 1840, Athens County, Ohio, and died at the age of 71 October 13, 1912, Bedford, Iowa. They were married February 23, 1862, Athens County, Ohio. To this union were born five childern: Mary Adelia, born 1864 and died 1864; Louis Elmer, born August 15, 1866 Caldeonia, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died November 1937; Bertha Elta, born 1870 and died 1878; John Wesley, born 1872, died 1951; Bertie Clyde, born 1878, died 1951.

Louis, at the age of eight years, moved with his parents to Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa,and lived here for 63 years, where he passed away in his home November 15, 1937 at the age of 71 years and 3 months.

On March 20, 1890, he was united in marriage to Martha Etta "Minnie" GREENLEE (1872-1896) and to this union four children were born. They were Lelia Edna born 1891 and died 1908; Maran Eldon born 1893 and died 1984; Carl Alvin born 1895 and died 1968; a daughter born 1896 and died 1896. Martha (GREENLEE) WYCKOFF died November 2, 1896.

On May 25, 1898, he was married to Mary Elsina RABOURN (1878-1963). To this union were born fourteen children. They were: Arthur Elmer born 1898 and died 1960; Glen Drexel born 1901 and died 1956; LeRoy Dallas born 1905 and died 1987; Fred Edward born 1908 and died 1987; Joseph "Alva" born 1910 and died 1981; Esper "May" born 1912 and died 1994; Carrie "Fay" born 1914 and died 2000; Ross Allen, twin born 1915 and died 1994; Rose Alma, twin born 1915 and died 1960; Nina Estella born 1917; Lee Archer born 1918 and died 1923; Buellah Belle born 1919 and died 1919; Bonnie Vesper born 1921; and Rex Raymond born 1923. Mary raised these children. She died April, 1963.

Because of Louis' long residence in Bedford and his activity throughout the ears of his life, he was very well know. he worked faithfully and well at his trade.

He had his own cement block factory west of the lumber yard. He was a brick and cement contractor and builder. one of his larger jobs was helping build a wing on the old St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, [Nodaway County] MO.

He took pride in his work and always did his very best whether the job be large or small.

He united with the Methodist Church when a small boy.
