THE VANDERPLUYM FAMILY

Albert H. VANDERPLUYM was born in 1880, Heusden, Holland. He came to America as a small boy in 1892. The VANDERPLUYM family resided in Creston where his father was employed by the railroad.

In 1915, Albert and Hazel Dell DEWEY were married. They moved to their farm located three miles north and three-fourths of a mile east of Tingley, which was located on the Union - Ringgold County line. Here Albert and Hazel resided until 1960.

Albert died in 1963. Hazel died in 1960.
They were interred in Tingley Cemetery.

Albert and Hazel were the parents of six children. All of the children graduated from the eighth grade at Hackberry School located two miles north of Tingley. They continued their education and graduated from Tingley High School.

Alice VANDERPLUYM married Milton O. COON. They lived in Des Moines where Alice retired from the Internal Revenue Service. Alice and Milton were the parents of two children, and had eleven grandchildren.

Elmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Elmer and his wife Darlene resided in Creston where he was employed by the Union County Soil Conservation. They were the parents of two sons and had three grandchildren.

Wayne and his wife Doris resided in Salinas, California where he was employed by a lumberyard. They were the parents of four children and the grandparents of six.

Irene, born in 1921 married Cyril A. HUBBARD and they farmed in rural Diagonal. Irene and Cyril were the parents of one daughter and the grandparents of two granddaughters. Cyril was born in 1918 and died in 2005 with interment at Tingley Cemetery.

Francis "Raymond" served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife Josephine resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were the parents of three children.

Herbert "Dean" served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a custodian at Southwestern Community College. Dean and his wife Wilma resided in Arispe. They were the parents of seven children.

Hazel Dell (DEWEY) VANDERPLUYM was the sister of Nona DEWEY who married Cliff GILES. Their brother was Edwin DEWEY who died during World War I in 1918. The American Legion Post in Tingley was named in Edwin's honor.
