JANE (LOCKHART) ROGERS
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Jane was born in 1810, Virginia, the daughter of Daniel LOCKHART (1785, VA - 1870, VA) and Mary Ann (WOOD) LOCKHART (1785, VA - 1825, VA). She married Riley ROGERS on May 12, 1834 in Lee County, Virginia. After their marriage, Jane and Riley moved from Lee County, Virginia, to Hawkins County, Tennessee where they became members of the Richardson Creek Church along with Riley's parents, Thomas and Elizabeth.

Riley was a carpenter, cabinet maker and a farmer. He fell ill with "the fever" and died at the age of 44 of "the fever" on September 20, 1850, Lick Creek Township, Van Buren County, Iowa. He was interred at Bethel Cemetery, Birmingham, Van Buren County, Iowa.

Jane gave birth to their last child John Greenlee a month after Riley's death. She raised her eight children and Riley's daughters from his first marriage, Elizabeth (ROGERS) HICKS (1828, TN - 1900, IA) and Lorinda ROGERS (1830, TN - 1857, IA).

After Hamilton's death, Jane applied for and was granted a mother's pension. Jane and her younger chilren moved on to Appanoose County, Iowa. Jane later moved on to Mount Ayr, Ringgold County where she resided with her daughter Burnetta and family until her death at age 71 in 1881. Jane was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
