Albert G., known as Bert BEALL, was born near Shreve, Ohio, April 23, 1822. He came to Mount Ayr in 1855 when there was but one log cabin in town - that of Barton B. DUNNING. Bert was elected treasurer and recorder for 1857-58-59. Then, in 1860-61, was county superintendent. He also taught at the first school in the first frame schoolhouse in 1860-61, then again in 1864-65.

While Bert was treasurer and recorder there was a great cyclone which struck Mount Ayr on June 8, 1858. It blew the log court house down and blew the papers and everything to the four winds of heaven.

Bert went back to Ohio in 1858, and married Lois FUNK of Wayne County, Ohio, and came back to Mount Ayr, where he filled county offices and taught school unil 1871 when he moved to his farm in Poe Township and died September 30, 1893.

Corwin died at the aged of 33 years on September 6, 1893. Ada [born January 11, 1894] died January 8, 1936. [Corwin and Ada were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.]

One thing out of the ordinary, he built a log cabin and built a stockade eight or ten feet high of slabs around his house. No one at this time knows whether it was a protection agains wind or Indians. The only opening in this stockade was on the back side.
