Rev. Peter A, ANDREWS was born on December 6, 1819, Nova Scotia, Canada. Rev. ANDREWS married 1st in Nova Scotia, to Caroline GRANT. Caroline (GRANT) ANDREWS was born in 1823, and died at Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, June 4, 1857. Rev. and Caroline ANDREWS were the parents of three children:

Redmond was the youngest of 9 children born to Martin STEPHENS (1809-1864) and Mary (KINCH) (1796-1870) of Caledonia IA. Redmond's grandfather was John Henry STEPHENS (1740-?) who married Margaret, a Cherokee from Union County, North Carolina.

Anne and Redmond STEPHENS were interred at Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, Ringgold County, Iowa. They were the parents of three children:

From The History of Buffalo County and Its People, "Charles W. DAKE removed his family from Mount Ayr, Iowa, and soon started another bank in the north part of town, later known as the Buffalo County National Bank. Owing to grasshopper depredations, drought and genearl hard times this bank failed some years later and Mr. DAKE went to Denver. . .Peter W. WILSON [came in] from Mount Ayr, Iowa; Samuel WENZELL accompanied the latter, each with their families. H. C. ANDREWS came the following December from the same place [Mount Ayr, Iowa] as the latter two. . . .Henry C. ANDREWS served as member of the Buffalo County Bar, a member of the legislature in 1887 and also as member of the board of county supervisors. . . .The Kearney Lodge No. 984 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was instituted on June 30, 1905 by the initiation of a class of ninety. At this same meeting . . .K. R. ANDREWS [was elected as] Loyal Knight. [He has served as exalted ruler and secretary of the lodge since its inception.]"

Caroline Grant ANDREWS wrote circa 1932, "Peter ANDREWS left Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in October of 1857, after the death of his first wife. He intended to locate in Kansas but that state being in such an uproar over slavery, he did not stay. While on the boat coming up from St. Louis, Missouri, he was told to shut up and [was] threatened with a coat of tar and feathers for being an abolitionist. The captain of the ship saved his life by telling them that Rev. ANDREWS was an Englishman. After that he kept his views to himself. Peter ANDREWS was a preminent pioneer Baptist preacher, serving as a pastor of the churches at Caledonia, Mount Ayr, Tingley, Corning, and many other localities. He was said to have named the Village of Caledonia [Iowa]."

Rev. ANDREWS and his three children settled in Lott's Creek Township of Ringgold County, Iowa.

Rev. ANDREWS married 2nd on November 26, 1860, Ringgold County, Iowa, to Elizabeth WALTER*. Elizabeth, the seventh of nine children born to John WALTER (1796/98-1885) and Sarah (GNAGY) WALTER (1795 or 1800-1844), was born on August 24, 1833, and died November 14, 1924, Corning, Adams County, Iowa. Rev. ANDREWS and Elizabeth were the parents of five children:

Elizabeth (WALTER) ANDREWS died on November 14, 1934, Corning, Iowa. Rev. ANDREWS and Elizabeth were interred at Walnut Grove Cemetery located in Corning Quincy Township, Adams County, Iowa.
