Despite high winds, more than 70 attended the ground blessing held for the new United Baptist-Presbyterian Church west of
Mount Ayr at the corner of Highway 2 and 169 South on Sunday, April 18. Special prayers led by Pastor Pete BRANTNER, messages
by special guests and a balloon send off by the children were part of the program.
The church broke ground in March. The
new church will be in construction all summer.
Members of the United Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church in
Mount Ayr consolidated officially Jan. 1, 2004. However members of both churches have been worshipping together since
July 2003.
Several of the stained glass windows of the Mount Ayr Presbyterian Church were removed Tuesday. The windows will be reconditioned by a stained glass shop and then will be placed in the new United Baptist-Presbyterian Church being built west of Mount Ayr. The windows will be used in the interior of the new church building. The fate of the old Presbyterian church building has not been completely determined.
The year of 2005 promises to be an exciting one for the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church congregation as they get ready
to move into the new church building located at the corner of U.S. Highways 169 and 2.
The last few services at the old
church at 205 N. Polk St. in Mount Ayr will be as follows:
Jan. 30 - Simply Voices, a singing group from Mount Ayr United Methodist Church, will be presenting a program
during the worship service. As February begins, the congregation is hoping to move into the new facility. There will be
a celebration of dedication and an open house of the building sometime in the spring.
However, we invite anyone without
a church home to worship with us at any time. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m., worship service following at 10:30 a.m.
each Sunday.
