CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Ringgold City, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa

In an article written by Judy POTTORFF, Garrett and Cynthia POTTORFF, early settlers to Ringgold County, joined the Christian Church in the fall of 1855 at Ringgold City. Charles P. BENNETT noted in his list of "Historic Religious Sites of Ringgold County: Abandoned Rural and Ghost Town Churches" that the only known church which existed in Ringgold City was the Evangelical church. It is quite possible that the congregation of the Christian Church at Ringgold City met in homes or at the school, as was the custom when the congregation lacked funds to build a house of worship.
