Free Methodist Church
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
The Free Methodist congregation had conducted worship services in rural schools and homes prior to moving to Mount Ayr
in 1927. After a sucession of pastors, the congregation went through a period where there wasn't a pastor. They buit a
basement on the northwest corner of East Madison and Tyler Streets in 1947, where they held services. The church building
was completed over the basement in 1951, with a dedication ceremony on May 20, 1951. A parsonage was built in 1954.
Reverend Ward CAMPBELL assumed the pulpit in 1954, and served the congregation well for twenty years.
