WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH CHURCH of the NAZARENE
The Wesleyan Society met on November 27, 1902, and organized. They purchased a lot from W. S. SLATTERY and prepared to build
a church building there. When the Society became inactive, the church building was purchased by Charlie SCHLAPIA, a charter
member of the Weslyan Society, in 1925. The church building became the home of the Church of the Nazarene. Previously, the
Church of the Nazarene had secured the use of the Methodist Church in Knowlton, which was destroyed by lightening. The
church building was later used as the home of Ray CARSON when it was destroyed by fire.
Charter members of the Church of the Nazarene were Glade and Lucille BAKER, Lawrence WEEDA, Cora GOODSON SCHLAPIA, Doyle BAKER,
Emmet and Gertrude BAKER, Laura BARCHUS, and Charlie SCHLAPIA. Church membership dwindled as members died, moved away, or
joined new churches being founded in Ellston and Maloy.
