Taylor's four state rodeo titles bring era to end for family

by Alan Smith

Eleven years of participation in the state high school rodeo finals came to an end for the Steve TAYLOR family of Mount Ayr this past weekend.

For 11 years the weekend of Steve and Cheryl TAYLOR's wedding anniversary, Jamie TAYLOR'S birthday and Father's Day has been spent in the state rodeos. She took fifth in breakaway roping in the state.

She received four saddles this year for her four state titles. She also received buckles for the four firsts and for her placings in barrel racing and breakaway roping.

Joe has brought home the state pole bending title fourtimes and the state barrell (sic) racing title three times over the years for the TAYLOR girls.

The high school rodeo circuit means going to rodeos for nine weekends through the year. Points earned at these rodeos are added to the performances at the finals at Albia to name the winners in the events.
