CYRUS SWEET
SWETT, Cyrus, section eighteen, post-office Platteville, was born in the Green Mountain State [Vermont], in 1823. When five years old his
parents moved to Ohio, where he grew to maturity and received a liberal education. When seventeen, he
engaged in carpentering, and followed that business for a time. In 1844 he went to Philadelphia, where he
remained a short time, then returned to Ohio on foot. He came to Iowa in 1848, and the following year located at Des
Moines, where he engaged at his trade. Became a resident of this county in 1854, entered land in section 19,
and improved a part of his present farm. He was married in Des Moines in 1852, to Miss Rebecca, daughter of
Thomas MORRIS. Of their children, nine are now living: William T., Catharine, Caroline, Charles H., Ida A.,
Rosa Belle, Dora Francis, Cyrus V. and John. Subject now owns 160 acres of land well improved, and is among
our most substantial business men.
