Jonathan STUCK, farmer, section 4, Lott's Creek Township, is among the leading agriculturists and old pioneers of Ringgold County. He was born in [Northumberland of] Union County, Pennsylvania, July 30, 1828, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth STUCK. He was the third of four children, and was reared a farmer.

At the age of fourteen years he learned the tailor's trade, and followed that occupation four years. He then removed to Lucas County, Ohio, where he resided three years, thence to Seneca County, Ohio. In 1852 [March 4th at Sandusky County, Ohio] he was married to Miss Anna PAINE [sic, should be Anna M. PAYNE], and their two children were Henry and Franklin. In 1855 Mr. STUCK removed to Missouri, where Mrs. STUCK died the same year.

July 14, 1855, he came to Ringgold County and entered 160 acres of land from the Government at $1.25 per acre. His first residence was a log cabin, 16 x 18 feet, with puncheon floor. He has since added to his farm until he owns 349 acres, and his farm is known to be one of the best in the township. He has a good, one-and-a-half-story residence, modern style and well furnished, surrounded with shade and ornamental trees, out-buildings for stock, an orchard, and everything about the place indicates the thrift of the proprietor.

In 1857 Mr. STUCK married Miss Mary HOLLISTER, a native of Greene County, Indiana, and they have eleven (sic) children - Elizabeth, Mary Ann, John, Jacob Lincoln, James Manuel (sic), Lucinda, Peter, Daniel, Charlie, Martha ["Mattie"] and Joseph. Mr. STUCK came to Ringgold County with very little means, but by industry and good management he has acquired a large property. Postoffice, Caledonia.

NOTE: Jonathan Melchoir STUCK died August 21, 1916, Ringgold County, Iowa. Anna M. (PAINE or PAYNE) STUCK, Jonathan's first wife, was born in Seneca County, Ohio, on May 24th, 1834, and died June 21, 1855, Daviess County, Missouri. Jonathan's second wife Mary B. (HOLLISTER) STUCK was born in Greene County, Indiana on April 11, 1837, and died January 23, 1921, Ringgold County, Iowa. Jonathan and Mary were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.

William Franklin STUCK, son of Jonathan and Anna M. (PAINE or PAYNE), was born January 18, 1853 in Seneca County, Ohio, and died in Ringgold City, Ringgold County, Iowa, on May 22, 1926. William married on December 25, 1878 to Nancy Ellen GULICK.

John "Henry" STUCK, son of Jonathan M. and Anna M. (Paine or PAYNE), was born February 3, 1855, at Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri, and died on December 15, 1920, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Elizabeth or Elisabeth STUCK, daughter of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born May 22, 1858, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, died January 19, 1937, Missouri. Elizabeth married on January 24, 1877 to William CAMPBELL.

Mary Ann STUCK, daughter of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born October 1, 1859, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died at Denver, Adams County, Colorado, on March 16, 1932. Mary Ann married Henry STOBER.

John Edward STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born April 11, 1861, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died September 29, 1937, Shelton, Mason County, Washington. John married July 4, 1884, Ringgold County, Iowa, to Emma Adaline BROWN, born July 26, 1860, the daughter of George and Nancy (KIRKPATRICK) BROWN. John and Emma were the parents of Ernest, George, Aaron, Vera, Clara, and (child) STUCK.

Catherine STUCK, daughter of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), born February 9, 1863, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died January 21, San Diego, San Diego County, California. Catherine married first Ephraim STOBER; and, married 2nd Charles SELGROVE.

Jacob Lincoln STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), born October 28, 1864, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died in Iowa in 1964. Jacob married 1st Fannie L. PEPPARD; and, married 2nd October 14, 1888, Ringgold County, Iowa to Margaret R. JOHNSON.

James Emmanuel STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), born August 10, 1866, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died October 30, 1939, McCleary, Grays Harbor County, Washington. James married in Ringgold County, Iowa, on January 1, 1889, to Laura Belle WALTER, the daughter of Abraham and Nancy (JOHNSON) WALTER. Laura Belle was born August 29, 1867, Caledonia, Ringgold County, and died May 26, 1950, McCleary, Washington. James and Laura Belle were the parents of:

Samuel "Peter" STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born June 11, 1870, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died March 19, 1955, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Peter married in Ringgold County, Iowa, on February 24, 1895 to Amanda Ella BURNISON.

George "Daniel" STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born April 14, 1873, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died February 11, 1964, San Diego, San Diego County, California. Daniel married on June 12, 1892, Ringgold County to Orpha A. FOSTER, who died March 30, 1962.

Charles "Charlie" STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born July 4, 1877, Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died in 1959, Oklahoma.

Martha Matilda "Mattie" STUCK, daughter of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born in Ringgold County, Iowa, June 6, 1877, and died June 21, 1964, Sacramento County, California. Mattie married June 7, 1897, Ringgold County, Iowa, to Edward WHITE.

Joseph STUCK, son of Jonathan and Mary B. (HOLLISTER), was born August 7, 1880, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died August 20, 1906, Ringgold County, Iowa, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Joseph married Jennie LAIRD.
