CHARLES L. SHATTUCK
Charles L. SHATTUCK, station agent for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad at Mt. Ayr, is a native of the
State of New Yrok, born in Cortland County, April 28, 1824, his parents, David P. and Asenath (PHELPS) SHATTUCK, being
natives of Connecticut and New York respectively. They were the parents of thirteen children, five sons and eight daughters,
our subject being the sixth child. He was reared on the home farm, his father following the avocation of a farmer, and
his education was obtained in the district schools and at the Cary Collegiate Institute. He remained with his parents
till reaching the age of twenty-three years, when he commenced farming on his own account. He was married December 23,
1847, to Miss Rhayadergowy WINSLOW, a native of Monroe County, New York, where her father, Jacob WINSLOW, is still living.
They have two sons, one of whom is living - Jacob, now in Chicago, Illinois, who has been an engineer for eighteen years.
Charles L[yman]. was killed [at the age of 23] in a railroad accident near Lucas, Iowa, in November [11th], 1884 [and was interred at
Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. He was born in New York on September 27, 1861.] Mr. SHATTUCK followed farming
until 1861, when he entered the employ of the New York Central Railroad Company as a station agent, remaining with that
company until the winter of 1876-'7, since which he has been in the employ of the Chicago, BUrlington & Quincy Company, and
is at present acting as ticket and freight agent at Mt. Ayr. Mr. SHATTUCK is a member of the Masonic fraternity, belonging
to a lodge in New York State.

NOTE: Col. Charles Lyman SHATTUCK
died at the age of sixty-four years on October 3, 1888, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County,
Iowa. Mrs. SHATTUCK's name has also been spelled as "Rhayadergrey."
