Mr. and Mrs. H. PATRICK
Mr. and Mrs. Harmon PATRICK are among the oldest settlers of Ringgold county, having come here when houses were miles apart,
and having lived on the same farm in Riley otwnship for over 40 years. Mr. PATRICK has lived in the county over 41 years and
Mrs. [Mary (BONNER)] PATRICK one year longer. Their ages are respectively 68 and 55, and their marriage took place in 1859. They were the
third family to settle in that part of the county, have always been highly respected by their acquaintances, and after
working for many years, removed last year to Mt. Ayr to spend their declining days. They are members of the United
Brethren church. NOTES: Harmon PATRICK was born in Jackson County, March 29, 1828, to Harmon Sr. and
Mary (WOLFORD) PATRICK. He married first on April 27, 1849 in Marion County, Ohio, to Matilda Urene BENT, the daughter of
Elijah and Mariah (KERR/CARR) BENT. Matilda died at the age of 28 years on April 15, 1869, and was interred at Patrick
Cemetery, Riley Township, Ringgold County.
Harmon married second on November 18, 1860 to Mary BONNER, the daughter
of James and Lydia Ellen BONNER. They were the parents of John L. PATRICK, Sarah Ann "Sadie" (PATRICK) STRICKLAND,
Lydia P. "Mid" (PATRICK) HOLLEN, William H. PATRICK, James Edward "Edd" PATRICK, and a daughter and three sons who died
in infancy.
Harmon was a Civil War Veteran, enlisting on October 13, 1862 and served with Company C of the Southern
Iowa Border Brigade. Harmon died on February
22, 1903. Mary was born August 13, 1841, and died on March 20, 1923.
They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
