JONATHAN PARKHURST
Jonathan PARKHURST, farmer, section 7, Benton Township, was born in Windsor County, Vermont, July 17, 1836, son of
John and Hannah (JOHNSON) PARKHURST. He was the twelfth of a thirteen children. He was reared a farmer, and educated in the
common schools of his native State. At the age of nineteen years he removed to Knox County, Illinois, where he engaged in farming
seven years. From 1861 to 1864 he resided in Cleveland, Ohio. March 5, 1864, he was married to Miss Nancy SENDLEY, who was
born in Buffalo, New York, daughter of Daniel and Mary (CLARK) SENDLEY. Soon after marriage he returned to Knox County, and
remained until 1867; then removed to Ringgold County, and settled on section 20, on the State road, where he resided three years.
In 1870 he settled upon his present farm, which was then in a wild condition. He has improved and cultivated his land, and
everything about the place indicates thrift and industry. He has a comfortable house, out-buildings for stock, and an
orchard of 150 bearing trees. Mr. and Mrs. PARKHURST are the parents of five children - Ettie Adella, Louise Rowena, Margaret Ellen,
John Edwin and Clara Lovina. Politically Mr. PARKHURST affiliates with the Republican party. Postoffice, Clearfield,
Taylor County, Iowa.
NOTE: Jonathan PARKHURST died August 11, 1922. His wife Mary was born in 1845, and died in
1921. They were interred at Platte River Cemetery near Maloy, Ringgold County, Iowa.
John Edwin PARKHURST was born in 1871, and died in 1958, with interment at Platte River Cemetery.
