She grew up with her siblings Jim and Jean Ann, and attending country school near Fredricksburg, Iowa, until she was
eight-years-old. Grace graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1942, and attended Iowa State University where she

resided on their farm located two miles northeast of Mount Ayr. Their son Mike Edward
served [during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia] as a gunner
on AC 120 gunship when the airship went down 200 feet off the coast of Mombasa, Kenya, Africa. Mike perished
on March 14, 1994 while saving the lives of his fellow comrades from the fiery crash. He was 32-years-old.
Grace unrelentingly instilled a sense of appreciation of high standards, hospitality, gracious entertaining, and general
living skills in her many students over the years. Her influence was beyond measure which impacted many lives.
Grace was active with her membership in the Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Circle, Today's Women Federated Club,
