May 16, 1911

JOSIAH MIDDLETON

Mr. Josiah MIDDLETON of this city [Mount Ayr], was born in Knox County, Ohio, May 23, 1821, and will be 90-years-old on Tuesday, May 23, 1911. He enjoys good health and does not look as though he was more than 70. He is the youngest looking old man in the country. He brags of having the cleanest garden in the city and does the work himself. He is always cheerful.

He came from Fairfield County, Ohio, to Ringgold County, Iowa, in 1881 and soon settled in Poe Township where the family lived until the removal to Mount Ayr. Mr. MIDDLETON has grown old pleasantly and helps to make life pleasant for his friends.

NOTE: Josiah MIDDLETON died September 25, 1915. Josiah's wife Mary Ann (PARRISH) MIDDLETON was born August 2, 1823, and died January 5, 1906. Mary H. MIDDLETON, daughter of Josiah and Mary Ann, was born August 30, 1860, and died of consumption March 2, 1885. They were interred at Sweet Home Cemetery, Poe Township, Ringgold County, Iowa.
