Twice-A-Week News Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa 1898
An Excellent Mechanic.
One of the best known and most successful mechanics in Ringgold county is that man of large frame and large heart, James
McCOMBS. Mr. McCOMBS came to Ringgold county five years ago and settled on a small farm in Liberty township near the
place of his brother-in-law, Briggs WILBER. Mr. McCOMBS, who is now 48 years of age, has been a general mason for over
30 years, having learned the trade from his father, who also was a master mason. In some of the best buildings in Mt.
Ayr Mr. McCOMBS' work appears. He secured the contract for the substantial new brick jail erected last year and
several times has made extensive repairs on the court house, his first work on that building being a very difficult
job of repairing the foundation at the southeast corner. The masonry in the residences of M. L. BEVIS and John HORNE and
at the Mt. Ayr bank, is a product of Mr. McCOMBS' labors.
NOTE: James McCOMBS was born on March 17, 1847, and died October 11, 1902. DeEtte McCOMBS was
bron December 5, 1850, and died December 9, 1904. They were interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
