JOHN EARL "BARNEY" HORNE
John Earl "Barney" HORNE was born in Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa, on May 3, 1897. He graduated from Mount Ayr
High School in 1916. During World War I Barney served in France with the Ambulance Corps. He returned to Ringgold County
and was a charter member of Mount Ayr's American Legion. In 1921, Barney married Birdice KING who was born in 1898.
After Birdice's death,
Barney married Leta Mae ELMORE in 1958. Barney purchased the HORNE Rexall Drug from his father and operated the
business until his retirement 45 years later in 1963.
Barney died May 7, 1984, and was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. His
scrapbook containing Ringgold County clippings has been donated to the Mount Ayr Depot Museum.
