H. M. BAUMANN
H[iram]. M[ack]. BAUMANN, engaged in farming and stock-raising on section 4, Lincoln Township, is a native of Pennsylvania,
born April 20, 1852, a son of J. G. and Hannah (KLINGINSMITH) BAUMANN, who were natives of Germany and Pennsylvania respectively,
the father being the oldest settler of Ringgold County. Our subject was brought by his parents to Iowa in an early day,
locating first in Jefferson County, and a short time later came to Ringgold County, and there he experienced many of the
privations as well as the pleasures of pioneer life. The surround country was then in a state of nature, and Indians and
wild animals were the principal inhabitants. H. M. BAUMANN was reared to agricultural sursuits, and received his
education in the district schools. He has lived on his present farm since coming to this county, and is the owner of
320 acres of chice land, which has been acquired by years of toil and industry, and he is classed among the prosperous
agriculturists of Lincoln Township. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma A. ___, who was born in Pennsylvania, December
15, 1852. They have seven children - Harry R., born May 1, 1876; Laura E., born April 21, 1878; E. M., born July 18, 1879;
John A., born December 28, 1880; Ida L., born October 10, 1882; Ada H., born April 26, 1884, and an infant yet unnamed,
born March 19, 1886. In politics Mr. BAUMANN affiliates with the Republican party. Mr. BAUMANN has on his farm
a very fine orchard covering three acres. his residence and farm buildings are comfortable and commodious, and
everything about his place betokens the thrift and care of its owner.
NOTE:
Johann Gottlieb "John" BAUMANN was born May 4, 1817, Rohr, Baden-Wuerttemberg, German, the son of
Peter BAUMANN (1780-1835) and Elisabeta Ursula BAUMANN (1779-1832). Johann married in Pennsylvania on March 1, 1838 to
Hannah Jane KLINGINSMITH. Hannah was born May 20, 1811, West Salem, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of
Peter KLINGINSMITH (1776-1842) and Catherine (SMITH) (1777-1816). The BAUMANNS were residing in Ringgold County, Iowa,
by 1870 where Johann died at age 72 on March 28, 1890, and Hannah died at age 87 on March 1, 1899; they were interred
at Grove Chapel, Lincoln Township of Ringgold County, Iowa. Johann and Hannah
were the parents of six children: Sarah C. BAUMANN; Harriet BAUMANN (1839-1897); Simon Peter BAUMANN (1840-1915);
Maria BAUMANN (1846-1946); Mary Ann BAUMANN (1849-1926); Hiram Mack BAUMANN (1852-1909).
Simon Peter "Pete" BAUMANN was born September 12, 1840, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and died June 22, 1915,
in Lincoln Township of Ringgold County, Iowa. Simon's wife Dorothy was born in 1841, and died July 12, 1916. Simon and
Dorothy were interred at Grove Chapel in Lincoln Township of Ringgold County, Iowa.
Mary Ann BAUMANN was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, September 16, 1849, and died September 27,
1926 at Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa. Mary Ann married 1st in 1862 to Norman James ALLEN, and they were the parents of
Hannah Jane, John F., Agnes, Frank, and Norman Jr. Mary Ann married 2nd in Ringgold County, Iowa January 4, 1872 to
Nelson Steward DAVENPORT, born January 23, 1848, DeWitt County, Illinois, and died February 1, 1936. Mary Ann was interred at
Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Iowa. Nelson was interred at Grove Chapel, Ringgold County, Iowa. Mary Ann and
Nelson were the parents of: Eva Lettie (DAVENPORT) (1872-1935); Hattie Marcia (DAVENPORT) (1874-1950); Roy (1876-1933),
interred at Grove Chapel; John S. (1878-; Peter Logan DAVENPORT (1882-1954); Hannah Lillian (DAVENPORT) HAYES (1884-1954;
and, Oscar B. DAVENPORT (1886-1901), interred at Grove Chapel.
Hiram Mack BAUMANN was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, on April 19, 1852, and died at the age of
57 Years on October 31, 1909, Wellsville, Franklin County, Kansas. Hiram married in Iowa on March 24, 1875 to Emma Alice
CORT, who was born December 15, 1852, Chambersberg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Mary Ann (CARTER) CORT.
Emma Alice (CORT) BAUMANN died September 7, 1931. Hiram and Emma were the parents of eight children:
