I can still remember the long drive from the big city, Council Bluffs to
what I thought was a ghost town because of its size. I can remember as we
drove down through what was called Main Street a large weed rolled across
the road. I asked my father what it was. My father laughed and replied it
was a tumble weed. We drove on to our new home, the Stroud home. The house
was nice but no bathroom could be found. I later found out what an
outhouse was. Oh, I can still remember with a little shake of fear when I
would have to use the outhouse. I thought for sure I would fall in and no
one would find me. Of course my stays were very short. Now as I have grown
and married there only stands a memory of what once stood in the backyard.
