John Miller Lucretia Cannon Miller
John Miller
John Miller was born in Fulton Co., N.Y., Dec 29 1833. He
came with his parents to Kendall Co., Ill., in 1842, and
thence to Jasper Co., Iowa, in 1853. May 10th, 1854, he
united in marriage to Lucretia J. Cannon, to whom were born
eight children, three of whom (two sons and one daughter)
survive to mourn his departure. Sunday, Nov 10th, 1895, just
six weeks prior to his death, his companion was laid away to
her last earthly resting place.
He died at home, one mile north of Metz, on last Sabbath
morning, Dec. 22, aged 61 years, 11 months and 23 days. He
retired in usual health on Saturday evening and was found a
corpse in his bed on Sunday morning, having died from heart
trouble.
Of a family of 14 children, 3 brothers and 2 sisters survive
to mourn his departure. As a citizen and a man of honor and
integrity he commanded the confidence and respect of all who
knew him. The funeral services took place from his home on
Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Dr. Jacoby officiating, and the
interment in the Metz cemetery. ~ Newton Record, December

Biographical Sketch
Miller, John, farmer, Sec. 2; P.O. Metz; born in
Fulton., N.Y., Oct. 29, 1833; when about 12 years old, he
moved to Kendall Co., Ill., with his parents, and remained
there until 1853, when he came to this county and located
where he now lives; he has always been engaged in farming,
and now owns 220 acres, valued at $6,600. He married
Lucretia J. Cannon May 21, 1854; she was born in Bath Co.,
Ky., July 6, 1834. Has been a member of the Baptist Church
for over eighteen years. Their family consists of four
children living -- William, Louisa, Nancy and Jessie. Mr.

Lucretia Jane Cannon
Mrs. Lucretia Miller died at her home near Metz,
Saturday, Nov. 9, 1895. Mrs.Miller, daughter of John and
Nancy Cannon was born in Bath Co., Kentucky, July 6 1834. At
the age of six years, she with her parents moved to Indiana
and in 1849 came to near Newton near where she has since
lived. At the age of 11 years she made a profession of faith
in Christ and 10 years later united with the Baptist
church.
May 21, 1956 she united in marriage with John Miller. From
this union eight children were born (five sons and three
daughters) three of whom (two sons and one daughter)
together with the husband and father, one sister and one
brother survive to mourn her departure. Her congenial and
noble life commanded the respect of all who knew her.
She departed this life Nov. 9, 1895 at the age of 61 years,
4 moths and 3 days. Poem - Funeral services took place at 2
p.m. on last Sabbath from their family residence one mile
north of Metz, Dr. Jacoby of Newton, officiating and the
interment made in the Metz Cemetery. ~ ? paper, November 15,

Obituary
Mrs. Lucretia Miller died at her home near Metz,
Saturday, Nov. 9, 1895. Mrs. Miller, daughter of John and
Nancy Cannon, was born in Bath county, Kentucky, July 6,
1834. In 1840 she moved with her parents to Indiana, and
nine years later to Jasper county, Iowa. She had been a
believer in the Christian religion since girlhood and at the
age of twenty seven united with the Baptist church. She was
married to John Miller, May 10, 1854, and was the mother of
eight children, three of them yet living.
The funeral rites were held at the home. Sunday, at two
o'clock conducted by Rev. Jacoby, of this city. The remains
were interred in the cemetery in Metz. ~ The Newton Record,
November 15, 1895.
