Lemuel Jesse Miller

Miller.Lemuel Jesse, son of John and Jane Miller was born near Metz, Iowa, April 29, 1868, and departed this life at Newton after a long, tedious sickness, October 15, 1905. He leaves a wife and child, one brother and one sister to mourn his loss. He was married to Sarah G. Clement on October 25, 1887. To this union two children were born, one the eldest, died in infancy. Mr. Miller was a Christian and had great endurance. ??? he knew that weeks ??? before death for it was ??? get well of the dreaded disease. He took it calmly and his faith triumphed over death. He was fond of ? and prayed and rejoiced ?? of his Master. He was a good husband and father, a loving friend, and a splendid citizen and neighbor who was respected by al who knew him on his route selling mile the ??? him and the children remember him as their friend. In the triumph of faith, he came to trust the Lord with all his hearts. He made all arrangements for his funeral. Burial will be held at the Tate home tomorrow, Tuesday, at 11 o'clock and the services at Sugar Grove cemetery at 1:30. Rev. J. W. Hackley, Hal Wilson will sing. Coral Belle (Miller) Christensen
Born: February 2, 1891 in Jasper Co., Iowa Coral Belle MillerFuneral services for Mrs. J. C. Christensen, 47, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Morgan funeral home, with Dr. W. H. Blancke, pastor emeritus of the Newton Lutheran church, in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. A. F. Henning and Mrs. William Benjamin, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The body is being kept at Morgan funeral home, pending arrival of Mrs. Christensen's adopted daughter from California. Interment will probably be made Tuesday afternoon in Sugar Grove cemetery. Cora Bell Christensen, daughter of L. J. and Gertrude Clement Miller was born February, 2, 1891, near Metz, Ia., and died June 10, 1938. She spent her entire life in and near Newton, where she followed the profession of nursing until her health failed her about five years ago. In 1910, she was united in marriage to William Boles, and in 1915 she married Frank Higby. The couple adopted a daughter, Mary Laurine Higby of Oakland, Calif., and raised Leonard Higby of Kansas City, MO. On August 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to J. C. Christensen at Cedar Falls. She was a member of the Lutheran church of Newton and the Woodmen Circle and the Maccabees. She is survived by her husband; two step sons, Eldon and Robert Christensen; and one step daughter, Margaret Christensen; the adopted children, Mary Laurine Higby and Leonard Higby; two brothers, Burl Miller of Cedar Falls and Sergeant Harold E. Miller of Company I. 30 Infantry, Presidio, San Francisco, Calif.; also two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. ~ The Newton Daily News, March 13, 1938. |
